What Goes Well with Savory Oatmeal for Dinner?

Oatmeal for dinner, you ask? Heck, yes. Oats are an underrated, lower-carb substitute for brown rice, white rice, or quinoa. You can dress oats up “dinner-style” by using them in recipes such as Buddha bowls. Or, like in this recipe, you can whisk an egg in while cooking the main ingredients for a slight breakfast-y vibe.

If you’re the type of person who appreciates breakfast for dinner, you may fall madly in love with savory oatmeal.

What Goes with Savory Oatmeal?

When it comes to cooking savory oats, there are no rules. However, the one thing that’s recommended is to cook the oats and other main ingredients in bone broth. This will ensure the oatmeal has a good amount of savory flavor. Plus, a boost of collagen, anti-inflammatory amino acids, and minerals can never hurt.

Another suggestion (as per this recipe) is to add a beaten egg to the mix. This helps thicken up the oats to make them nice and fluffy. Who could resist?

Kale, mushrooms, paprika, and goji berries are the stars of this savory oatmeal recipe, but you could get adventurous with other toppings and seasonings, such as avocado, hot sauce, tomatoes, toasted sesame oil, and practically any other cooked veggie. If you’re craving extra protein, you could also add an extra egg (fried or hard-boiled) on top.
