Containing protein, vitamins, and essential minerals, bone broth alone is a good addition to your diet. But as celebrated trainer and health writer Thomas DeLauer shows us, when combined with the right ingredients, it can even become part of a tasty, wholesome drink.
With just a few ingredients, DeLauer has just the recipe for a delicious and incredibly simple cocktail that you can whip up in a flash on busy mornings before work or in the evenings post-workout.
It starts with Kettle & Fire’s Beef Bone Broth. Although chicken bone broth works great, too, DeLauer likes to use our beef bone broth because it has a higher collagen content. He chooses Kettle & Fire’s Bone Broth because of the nutrient density that’s achieved through long simmer times and the use of apple cider vinegar, which draws out the naturally-occurring collagen and amino acids from the bones.
Next, he sprinkles in a dash of cayenne pepper, which has been shown to boost metabolism. It does this by increasing thermogenesis—the process of elevating the core body temperature so that it can oxidize fatty acids more readily.
The third ingredient in this wholesome cocktail is coconut oil. Coconut oil serves a couple of distinct and important purposes here. The first is the medium-chain triglycerides. If you’re not familiar with them, medium-chain triglycerides cross through the portal vein, get processed by the liver and cross the double membrane in the mitochondria. Translation: they can give you energy.
Coconut oil also contains lauric acid, and lauric acid converts into something known as monolaurin in the body. Monolaurin is very powerful at killing off some of the bad bacteria in the gut, which, in turn, allows bone broth to do its digestion-supporting thing. In a way, it enhances the positive effects of bone broth in your body.
The fourth and final ingredient in this magical cocktail is cream of tartar, which contains potassium. Potassium slows down insulin production in the pancreas so that the pancreas isn’t randomly secreting insulin when it shouldn’t. This matters because insulin turns off fat-burning. So, with lower insulin levels, your body can better burn fat and leverage things like the coconut oil and the cayenne pepper.
All these ingredients get tossed into a high-powered blender, where they froth up like a bone broth latte.
All together, you’re getting the fat-burning effect of the cayenne, the fat-burning and restorative effect of the coconut oil, the added potassium from the cream of tartar and, of course, the collagen and gut-supporting benefits of the bone broth.

Ingredients
- 1 ½ cups Kettle & Fire Beef Bone Broth
- ¼ teaspoon ground cayenne pepper
- 1 tablespoon coconut oil
- ¼ teaspoon cream of tartar
